Welcome
Our General Education Program requires that you take various courses to develop certain skills and competencies. The mission of the Placement Testing Program is to determine if you are adequately prepared to succeed in these courses. We determine your level of proficiency by testing in reading, writing (English), and mathematics. As you prepare to sign up for placement testing (if required), please be sure to complete the reviews included in this site. Students who do not do well on the tests are generally students who have not taken the time to adequately prepare for placement testing. You should plan on reviewing at least 5 hours for math.
Notifications about placement testing started being mailed in February. Placement testing dates for students starting Fall 2008 are now posted under the FAQ link. To register for a date and time for testing on the Shippensburg University campus, please select the Registration @ Ship link and follow the posted directions. For testing at an alternate site, please see their testing information via the links to the left. To help with your decision, testing will take place at Ship on May 13th, 14th, 15th, and 24th at either 9 am or 1 pm. Whichever location, date, and time you select, we ask that you arrive at least 15 minutes early. All tests on the campus of Shippensburg University will be administered in MCT (Math and Computer Technologies Building), room 158 (see campus map). See each alternate site for testing location. If you are required to test, registration for one of the testing dates is required.
The early testing deadline has been set for the end of May. It is to your advantage to complete your testing requirement by this deadline otherwise you must test on the day of your summer orientation in June or July. Orientation days are long and we do not recommend students wait to test. Please make every attempt to test before the testing deadline.
Whenever you test, first-year students (not transfer students) please remember to bring your Test Reservation Form (gold sheet) and a photo ID. Please review the appropriate campus map before traveling to that campus. Shippensburg's campus map is available as link on the left navigation.
Transfer Students: Transfer students will be contacted by the Placement Testing Office if testing is required. Please do not schedule testing until being notified of a testing requirement. Transfer students do not need a Test Reservation Form. Transfer students only need to bring a photo ID.
Admissions' Testing: Students who have been referred by the Admissions' Office do not need a test reservation form. Questions about testing dates, location, and parking, should be directed to the Admissions' Office.
Questions regarding the university's modern language requirements and testing can be addressed via the Department of Modern Languages' website [www.ship.edu/~modlang].
Student's requesting to have their placement testing results sent to another college or university, must complete a Transcript Request form. Once the request is submitted, we will forward your scores. Please complete the form completely. An incomplete form will delay your results being sent out.
Your success at Shippensburg University is our ultimate goal!
