Course Goals:  

•    The student engages in academic exploration and adapts and applies the metacognitive and academic skills to be a successful student-scholar.

•    The student engages in opportunities for learning beyond the classroom.

•    The student develops strategies and goals to support their personal wellness and academic and professional success.

•    The student engages with core concepts of diversity and universality, and demonstrates principles of responsible citizenship within and beyond the campus community.

Course Objectives:

•    Cultivate Academic Success: Strengthen college-level core reading, writing, and critical thinking skills.

•    Empower Students to Manage their College Experience: Employ tools and strategies to manage your time, set goals, establish priorities, identify campus resources, and develop a plan for your academic and personal success.

•    Build Connections to the Campus and Community: Build a personal and professional network, engages in campus and community life, and establishes a connection to the purpose and traditions of Shippensburg University.

•    Foster Personal Health & Wellness: Implement strategies and goals to support your personal wellness and consider the connection between wellness and academic success.

•    Promote Civic Responsibility: Identify the values and responsibilities associated with being part of a community, and the importance of civic engagement, leadership, and service.

•    Practice Civility in a Diverse Society: Engages with the concepts of diversity and universality, and shared human experiences, and apply the skills to live, work, and interact as part of a diverse community.

Evaluation: Evaluations will be based on writing assignments, presentations, and exams.
